4,5, 6 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list means 6 children will receive a special call from author and illustrator!
Here’s the deal. For every week that Duck! Rabbit! is on the New York Times Best Seller List, Amy and Tom will call that number of children and read them a bedtime story. (We’re thinking Duck! Rabbit! would be the book of choice, but we’re open.) As of end of June, we’re thrilled to say that the book has been on the list 6 weeks. So, we’ll call 6 kids. If we’re lucky enough to stay on the list next week, we’ll call 7 kids! And on like that. Simply email missamykr@yahoo.com with the subject heading “Duck Call” and your name will be put in the hat for the weekly drawing. Easy as that. Hop to it!

The Beckoning of Lovely is a film project I’m happily in the midst of creating with 300 very cool strangers from around the world. Here are their names.
Play the 5- minute film that began it all
This 2-minute film is what preceded and led to The Beckoning of Lovely
Here was what seemed like the next logical step in the project a few months back
Here’s a summary video titled ”The Story (so far) of The Beckoning of Lovely”
* The next step in the project will soon be unveiled and explained in a new video. The video should be posted here and on YouTube by end of June. But I can tell you this: the next big something will happen in Chicago on 9/9/09.
4.

Books for children
“Little Pea” / illustrated by Jen Corace / Chronicle Books / 2005
→ My first children’s book. Synopsis: Little Pea’s plight is that he has to eat all of his candy (which of course, yuck, he hates) before he can have dessert. It has been translated into several languages including Italian, French, Hebrew and Korean.
→ Listen to the podcast for Land of Nod where I read “Little Pea” (plus other stories, poems, music). Best part for sure: daughter Paris co-hosts the show.
……………………………………………………………..

→ Read Daniel Handler’s review of “Little Hoot” in The New York Times Book Review.

…………………………………………………….
“Cookies: Bite-Size Life Lessons” / illustrated by Jane Dyer / HarperCollins /2005
→ I cried when I heard it made The New York Times Bestseller list.
→ This book explains big-concept words all through cookie-centric definitions like: Trustworthy means if you ask me to hold your cookie until you come back, when you come back I will still be holding your cookie.
……………………………………………………

“Words to Remember: a Journal for Your Child’s Sweet & Amusing Sayings” / illustrated by Ida Pearle /published by Potter Style
…………………………………………………………..
“Karma Checks: 60 Checks to Keep the World in Balance” / published by Potter Style
→ Example of a good karma check: “Thanks for holding the elevator door! You are clearly looking out for your fellow human. As of this ride, I declare the motto in this elevator: Up, up with people!” Example of a bad karma check: ”How could you litter like that? Personally, I’m stunned. And I just want you to know that next time I’d rather you hand your trash to me than drop it on the ground. See ya.”

A note about the comments section of site
I appreciate all of the comments sent to to me here. However, I have decided not to post them because of a) space reasons and b) it seems nicer just to keep private; to post them simply for public viewing and consumption somehow seems to diminish their value, and I really do appreciate and cherish the personal notes. — amy k.r.
